Brent Hayden of Vancouver added a silver in the 100 freestyle.
MOSCOW (October 18, 2011) – Erica Morningstar of Calgary earned her second gold medal this season on the FINA World Cup swimming circuit on Tuesday with a victory in the women’s 200-metre individual medley.
In the women’s 200 IM, Morningstar led at every split and clocked two minutes and 08.46 seconds for the win. It was her second gold and third medal on the circuit. She took gold in the 100 IM and silver in the 200 IM this past weekend in Stockholm.
Izumi Kato of Japan took the silver in 2:08.62 and Hye Rae Cho of South Korea third in 2:08.81.
In the men’s 100 freestyle, Nikita Lobintsev of Russia was the winner in 47.32 seconds. Hayden, fifth at the halfway point, roared to the finish in 47.45 for second while Matthew Abood of Australia was third in 47.89.
For Hayden it was his third silver on the circuit this season. He was second in Stockholm in both the 100 and 200 freestyle.
Competition ends Wednesday.
