Liam Desjarlais of St-Jerome, Que., and Kevin Nelson of Calgary led Canada to 1-2 finishes in their respective 1,500 races to help Canada to the overall title at the North American Challenge Cup.

Canada finished the three day meet with 2,211.5 points edging Southern California Swimming at 2002 and Mexico with 1,624. There were five teams at the competition competing in four age groups: 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18 for both men and women.

Desjarlais took the 1,500 in the 15-16 age group in 16 minutes and 09.46 seconds in a thrilling race in which he edged Yarish Wyatt of Winnipeg who clocked 16:09.50.

Nelson was first in the 17-18 age group 1,500 in 16:18.44 while Aaron Chanas-Larue of Winnipeg was second.

Canada was once again impressive in the relays winning seven of the eight 4X100 medley relays including a golden sweep of the four women’s races.

Individually, Mary-Sophie Harvey of Trois-Rivieres, Que., added two more gold medals to her haul winning the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM in the 11-12 age group. She earned five individual victories this weekend.
