We are looking for a Head Coach for our competitive swim club who is a mature, energetic, motivated individual with the ability to teach and inspire our children to do their best and to have fun learning and growing as competitive swimmers.

The successful candidate will have proven leadership and communication abilities to teach strong technical skills and foster the enthusiasm of about 50 swimmers aged 5-18. We are a very competitive summer club and our swimmers are committed to high performance as well as having fun.

Responsibilities Include:
• Developing and implementing a training plan for the 2011 summer swim season for competitive swimmers as well as for novice swimmers.
• Instructing proper competitive swimming techniques, demonstrating proper use of equipment, and observing swimmers to identify and correct mistakes in a positive manner.
• Creating/Tracking/Reporting goals and expectations for each swimmer, in consultation with the swimmer and the parent.
• Submitting swim meet event entries for each swim meet throughout the season and other administrative duties as may be required.
• Attending all swim meets.
• Assisting with organizing the Fairview Olympians annual swim meet scheduled for June 9.

Qualifications Required:
• Minimum NCCP Level 1
• Previous competitive swimming experience
• Minimum 1 year coaching experience at a competitive level
• Criminal record check

Fairview is a town of 3500 people in the heart of the Peace Country. We have an indoor, 5 lane pool located on the GPRC campus.

This is a part-time position of approximately 25 hours per week which includes Saturday swim meets. The contract will run from May 1 to August 19. We provide an extremely competitive monthly wage for this position as well as a generous expense allowance for travel and accommodation for meets. Opportunities may exist for additional part-time employment with GPRC, the Town of Fairview, or the swimming pool.

The Olympian Swim Club is a Canadian swim club based out of Edmonton, AB. Established in 1974, the Olympian Swim Club has maintained its position as one of the top swim clubs in the country. POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director will work to bridge the board with the club’s administration and the membership in a manner consistent with the vision, mission and core values of the club.

Enhancement of the club’s image and development of strong working relationships with the following relevant organizations, staff and board is essential:

  • OSC Executive Committee
  • OSC Head Coach/Director of Swimming
  • OSC Administrative staff
  • OSC Board of Directors
  • OSC Committee Chairpersons and Meet Managers
  • OSC membership
  • Other swimming clubs and organizations
  • Other organizations, government agencies, individuals and businesses


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement board policy and decisions:

  • Ensure that board policies and decisions are enacted.
  • Act as a resource and provide support for the board to insure that board governance, longterm planning, communications and policy decisions are made on an informed basis.
  • Assist the board with strategic/business plan development, updating and monitoring.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of club policy documents.
  • Assist with development and implementation of the orientation of incoming boardmembers and club volunteers.
  • Attend evening board meetings and club general meetings assisting with materials and ensuring recording of minutes for distribution and archiving.
  • Attend club events and club committee meetings and assisting with materials when necessary.

Monitor and oversee administrative management of the club:

  • Ensure the maintenance of OSC administrative records, statements, filing and thearchiving of all required documents.
  • Prepare and provide to the board, and other applicable bodies, summary reports,including recommendations for future improvement and change.
  • Liaise with vendors and government agencies on behalf of the club.
  • Identify, prioritize and provide advice and counsel to aid the board in accessing potential fundraising alternatives.
  • Maintain relationships with funding sources, prepare funding proposals and assist with grant applications.
  • Ensure that club activities such as bingos, gaming, casinos, concession events, funding grants, etc are properly maintained, applications are sent, the reports are filed and the necessary records are archived.

Monitor and oversee financial management of the club:

  • Ensure that club financial practices are optimal and that there is a system of internal controls to safeguard the financial assets of the club, working in conjunction with the treasurer and the board of directors.
  • Ensure the preparation of financials for reporting at monthly board meetings and year-end external audit, working in conjunction with the treasurer and the board of directors.
  • Ensure all accounts receivable and payable are current.
  • Ensure the maintenance of all OSC bank accounts, bank account reconciliations, weekly deposits, and preparation of cheques.
  • Actualize budgets and costs for events such as team travel, hosted competitions and club social events.
  • Liaise with the external auditor in conjunction with the treasurer and the board of directors.
  • Assist the executive with the development of the annual budget.

Establish, maintain and advance the club within the community:

  • Undertake and initiate activities within the community that recruit new members and enhance the visibility of the club.
  • Assist with the development of information about the club’s goals, programs and services.
  • Regularly obtain statistical and qualitative feedback about the club’s programs and service delivery.

Oversee club administrative staff:

  • Manage the OSC administrative staff; orient, train and evaluate.
  • Ensure appropriate administrative staffing consistent with club and membership needs and within the constraints of the club’s physical and financial resources.

Human resources & payroll:

  • Ensure documentation and file maintenance for all club staff is current.
  • Monitor staff benefits and benefit programs working in conjunction with the president and the board of directors.
  • Liaise with external payroll provider for all coaching and administrative staff as directed by the president and board of directors.

Physical assets of the club:

  • Provide recommendation to the board for acquisitions and expenditures as necessary and appropriate to the needs of the club.
  • Oversee the inventory of all fixed assets.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of club office facilities, and office equipment.
  • Monitor club property insurance programs.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE):
The ideal individual brings a combination of experience, leadership and strategic thinking to the role. Specific qualifications and abilities include the following:

  • Undergraduate Business Degree (concentration in sports administration or a related field is an asset, but not required)
  • Minimum five years experience in a relevant field
  • Strong passion and background in sports
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to develop significant and collaborative working relationships with staff, board members and relevant organizations
  • Ability to take on an important and significant leadership role with minimal adjustment time
  • Strong time management skills and capability to handle numerous tasks successfully in an efficient manner
  • Ability to establish media relations to develop the image of the club
  • Basic understanding and ability to deal with fundamental accounting principles
  • Significant experience in policy writing and drafting
  • Ability to understand and implement the specific vision and strategy of the Olympian Swim Club
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills – the ability to communicate in an articulate, succinct and professional manner that is exemplary of a true professional
  • Required to have a flexible schedule: some evenings and weekends will be mandatory for board meetings and events.

ft_sask_piranhas.jpgThe Fort Saskatchewan Piranhas Summer Swim Club is looking for an assistant coach for the 2012 summer season. The Piranhas Swim Club offers a very successful competitive program and has approximately 55 swimmers. The Club trains out of the Fort Saskatchewan Harbour Pool.

The successful candidate for this position:
- Will work closely with the Head Coach to create the best possible summer swim program for pre-competitive, competitive, regional and provincial stream swimmers.
- Instruct and teach skills in safe, logical progressions to assigned swimmers, demonstrating proper use of equipment, and observe swimmers to identify and correct mistakes in a positive manner
- Participate fully in all practices, dry land training, and swim meets
- Be well organized, capable of working independently and in a team environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Maintain a good rapport with coaches, club executive, swimmers, and families

Requirements and Qualifications
- National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Fundamentals Coach/Swimming 101 certificate in swimming.
- Current membership with the Alberta Coaches Council (ACC)*.
- Current membership with the Canadian Swim Coaches and Teachers Association (CSCTA)* and Swimming Canada (SNC).
-Complete Make Ethical Decisions (MED) online course as per NCCP coaching requirements.*
-Completed background check as per ASSA policy.*
-A minimum of one year coaching experience.

The Vermilion Vipers Summer Swim Club is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual to be head coach for the 2012 ASSA summer swim season (May 1 to August 19, 2012).

The Vermilion Vipers Swim Club offers a successful competitive program with approximately 35 swimmers. The Club trains at the Lakeland College Aquatic Centre at Vermilion (population approximately 4,500 located 190 km east of Edmonton on Hwy 16.)

As head coach, you’ll develop and lead a program for all swimmers with the goal of competing in meets, the Region C championship meet and the ASSA provincial championship. As head coach, you will:
•    Lead the coaching team by developing and implementing a training plan (including goal setting, drills, workouts or workout guidelines)
•    Instruct proper competitive swimming techniques and observe swimmers to improve development
•    Oversee and coordinate meet participation and meet event entries for all swim meets
•    Attend all swim meets
•    With the assistance of other members of the coaching team, complete two progress reports throughout the season (end of June and in August) on each swimmer
•    Be well organized, capable of working independently and in a team environment
•    Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Qualifications:

Coaches must meet all ASSA requirements for coaches and have experience within the competitive swim environment. Qualifications include:

•    National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Skills Coach certificate in swimming
•    NCCP Level 2 certification in swimming considered an asset
•    Current membership with the Alberta Coaches Council (ACC)

The Taber Viper Summer Swim Club is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Coach to add to our Coaching Staff for the 2012 summer swim season. The Taber Viper Swim Club has approximately 60 swimmer ranging in age from 5 to 18 and operating out of the Taber AquaFun Centre.

Some Possible Responsibilities include:
* Leading the coaching team with developing and implementing a training plan for the 2012 summer swim season (including workouts or workout guidelines for substitute coaches)
* Independently instructing proper competitive swimming techniques, and observing swimmers to identify and correct mistakes in a positive manner
* Overseeing and coordinating meet sign up and meet event entries for each swim meet throughout the season for the entire club

Hat Hurricanes Information:

The Hat Hurricanes are a summer swim Club in Medicine Hat, Alberta. The Hurricanes are seeking qualified individuals to join the team as Coaches for our Beginner, Intermediate and Senior level swimmers. Our coaches must be enthusiastic and highly motivated with a sound knowledge of long term athlete development. The ability to interact positively with youth and their families is strongly desired. The mission of our Club is to develop swimmers with excellent swimming technique, traits of good sportsmanship and team spirit, and to create a positive environment to promote camaraderie.

The Hurricanes are a smaller summer Club hoping to expand and develop a strong team in our region.   Swimmers may choose to participate in swim meets on weekends, which are held from the end of May until mid-August. Our Club swims at both the Medicine Hat Family Leisure Centre (indoor) and at Heald Pool (outdoor) and swimmers range in age from 5 to 18 years old. Our goal as a club is to not only increase the number of swimmers, but also to inspire children to embrace swimming as a lifelong activity, which requires highly involved coaches.

cochrane_piranhas.jpgThe Cochrane Piranhas Summer Swim Club is looking for an energetic person to join our coaching staff for the 2012 summer season. The season runs from May to mid-August. We have two positions available, Head Coach and Assistant Coach.

Head Coach Responsibilities:
-prepare a “general” training plan for the season
-attend parent meeting
-run three goal setting sessions
-run all training sessions for the “Silver back” group. Ages range between 10-15 years of age. Approx. 10-15 hours during the week
-attend weekly swim meets starting in June.

Assistant Coach Responsibilities: same as above, but you would be required to work with our younger swimmers. Ages range from 5 – 10 years.

Qualifications:
-previous competitive swimming and /or coaching/instructor experience
-certified Level 1 Skills Coach (or willing to take the course)
-must meet all the ASSA requirements to coach and be on deck at swim meets

The Lacombe Dolphins Swim club, a well established, and one of the largest  swim club organizations  involved in summer swim season within region D and the ASSA ,  is seeking a suitable candidate for employment during the 2012 season as Head Coach.

Working closely with our club executive, and team of assistant coaches, responsibilities will include working in an instruction based, fun, and competitive environment with a focus on swim skill development.

Primary responsibilities will be as an on deck coach and mentor to the youth of our club, and involves organizing,training and preparing swimmers for all practices and weekend swim meets. Practices are 3 hours in duration ,  with coach hour expectations daily from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm in Lacombe 5 days /week starting in early Mmay to mid August with swim meets taking place  primarily on Saturdays and a few Sundays throughout the summer.

A generous, salary based compensation program plus expense re-imbursement is available based on qualifications ,experience, and enthusiasm of the successful candidate.

Coaches must have coaches certificates and be able to meet all ASSA requirements.  Ideally they will have experience within the competitive swim environment through either summer or winter club.

Preference will be given to the candidate that can make a longer term commitment to our association for the 2012 season and beyond.
