The Southern Region Executive would like to take this opportunity to provide you with information regarding their purpose and the benefits Southern Region members receive.
What is Southern Region?
Swim Alberta is divided into two Regions, North and South. The Southern Region represents all competitive swim clubs from Red Deer to the southern Alberta border; approximately 22 clubs.
The board of Southern Region is composed of four executive members; an Officials’ Coordinator (appointed by the Swim Alberta Chair of Officials), a Junior Circuit Coordinator, two Lindsay Park Sports Society (Talisman Centre) Representatives and one Swim Alberta Representative. These volunteer individuals are your voice for the Southern Region competitive swimming community and at the Swim Alberta Board.
What does the Southern Region Do?
One of the Region’s primary objectives is to raise funds which benefit all Southern Region members, including:
1. Running Officials’ Clinics,
2. Subsidizing the Junior Circuit program,
3. In conjunction with the Northern Region, financially support Alberta’s elite swimmers.
Funds are predominantly raised through hosting SNC meets and running a Casino approximately every 18 months. In addition, the Executive considers and investigates the purchase of equipment required to facilitate running competitions and swim camps; purchasing mobile timing equipment for pools without timing systems is just one example.
Dedication from The Board and the active participation from you, its members, is required to help ensure the Alberta Southern Region continues to have a significant impact on Canadian swimming. The Executive eagerly welcomes and encourages membership feedback, participation and support so that it may best serve your needs and those of our athletes.
