To: the swim community in Northern Region

Swim Alberta is divided into two Regions, North and South. Northern Region is the organization that represents all the Northern area competitive swim clubs from Red Deer to the northern border of Alberta as well as clubs in Northwest Territories. There are approximately 24 clubs in this region and NR is their voice in Alberta.

Established in 1989, the board of Northern Region is now composed of four executive members, an official’s chairperson, an equipment chairperson, as well as six other board members.  The board members come from various swim clubs all over Alberta and Northwest Territories to represent you for the Northern Region swim community and at the Swim Alberta Board.

Northern Region raises money by hosting SNC meets and running a Casino approximately every 18 months. The money is used in several ways to help improve swimming in Northern Alberta. We purchase equipment for Kinsmen Pool and mobile timing equipment to take to pools without timing systems. The money raised by Northern Region is also used to run Officials clinics so that communities all over Northern Alberta have sufficient trained volunteers to officiate at swim meets. Northern Region supports the elite athletes of the province in conjunction with Southern Region, which shares this funding commitment. Northern region also has a representative on the Swim Alberta board to advocate for the interests of the Northern Region.

The dedication of the board and the active participation of its members are very necessary in making NR a strong presence in the swim community. It is our hope that through our efforts the athletes will ultimately benefit.
