To: the swim community in Northern Region:
Northern Region Swim Alberta: What & Who are we?
Swim Alberta is currently divided into two Regions, North and South. Northern Region Swim Alberta (NR) is the organization that represents the northern area for year round competitive swim clubs from Red Deer (not including Red Deer) to Arctic Circle including NWT.
NR was established and incorporated in 1968 and gained a seat at the Swim Alberta Board of Directors in 1969. The board of Northern Region is composed of four executive members, an official’s chairperson, an equipment chairperson, as well as six members-at-large. The board members come from various swim clubs all over Alberta and Northwest Territories to represent you and the Northern Region swim community at the Swim Alberta Board.
Besides being a voice on the Swim Alberta Board of Directors Northern Region raises money by hosting competitions, both provincial and national level and running a Casino approximately every 18 months. The money is used to help improve swimming in Northern Alberta.
1. Alberta First Grant Program – providing $43,000 in funding to swimmers.
2. Purchase and upkeep of the timing system at Kinsmen Sport Centre.
3. Purchase of electronics equipment that can be used at other pools throughout the region.
4. Hosting official’s clinics twice per year and officials education.
5. Post Secondary Bursary support for students, including the U of A Pandas and Bears.
The dedication of the board and the active participation of its members are very necessary in making NR a strong presence in the swim community. It is the hope that through our efforts the athletes will ultimately benefit.
